Just because want to gain some special experiences and exchange the culture with the “real” OZ people, plus~ I still have 3 weeks to go before leaving Au……, I joined the wwoof. Now I’m in a suburb of Melbourne , small town called Alexandra as a wwoofer, today is my fourth day here.
What’s “wwoof” ? Wwoofing means that you can stay in a oz family, eat with them, kill time with them, actually it’s living with them for free. But you have to help them to take care of the farm animals or gardening or do the housekeeping…., whatever they need you to do for them.
Mostly of the host live in the country side, as a farm or so. The one I stay in, it’s a small cottage. And the main income of this cottage is B/B(Bed and breakfast), lend a house to the guest who want to experience the farm life. There’re so many kind of animals here, such as a miniature horse, a rabbit named Harry, two calves, some sheep and goats, and a group of geese, chicken, and birds. And the scenery here is marvelous, you can see the mountains and so many stunning things that only appear in your dreams.
All I have to help here is looking after the animals, help Margaret do the household things and prepare a clean house for the coming guest. But I don’t have to work alone, there’s another wwoofer Amy, a Scottish girl just stays in Australia for 2 months could be accompany me. Fortunately, we get along with each other very much, and she often taught me some funny English, like” do my head in” means “Sb/St is annoy.”
This is my first time to be a wwoofer, in the beginning I expect they will be very interested in me, but they don’t. After chatting with Amy, and found that I’m their no. 268th wwoofer they have had, I understand why they act so normally, and not have a lot of questions about me. Now everything’s getting better and better, and there’re so many “first time” I had here so far, it’s really a very special experience that everyone shall try, I reckon. Okey dokey pig in a pokey~!!
